Fenghuang’s efforts to promote high-quality development of kiwifruit industry

Recently, there was a bustling scene in the processing workshop of Hunan Youyi Agricultural Development Company in Huinong Industrial Park of Xiangxi Tujia and Miao Autonomous Prefecture. Bottles of green kiwifruit juice rolled off the production line. The processes of feeding, disinfection, printing and labeling were completed by fully automated equipment, and five workers quickly sorted, packed and transported the boxes. The kiwifruit industry is a characteristic pillar industry in Fenghuang County, and has been included in the list of industries for provincial “one county with one characteristic industry” and national poverty alleviation in Hunan Province.

In recent years, the county government has increased efforts to attract many high-quality and deep processing enterprises to consolidate and expand the kiwifruit industrial chain, and promote the high-quality development of the kiwifruit industry.

In 2022, Hunan Youyi Agricultural Development signed a strategic cooperation agreement with the county government, focusing on building an agricultural whole industrial chain development project for industries such as kiwifruit, tea oil, and citrus in the county. The project is expected to have a total investment of 280 million yuan, and is planned to be completed within 3 years. Once put into production, it is expected to add more than 3,000 new jobs, and achieve sales revenue of over 2 billion yuan with a profit of over 150 million yuan.

At the same time, relevant departments of the county have taken a series of measures and policies to help the kiwifruit industry and enterprises develop vigorously.

Now, this project has become an excellent project in Xiangxi Prefecture in 2023. It is also the only key R&D project in Xiangxi Prefecture. The implementation of this project will play a huge promoting role in the deep processing of kiwifruit in Xiangxi and even the whole country. Chen Shuangping, head of Hunan Youyi Agricultural Development, said that the company has now built a kiwifruit juice beverage production line with an annual production capacity of 30,000 tons. After both production lines are completed, the annual production capacity can reach about 50,000 tons, achieving an output value of over 500 million yuan.

This year, the company will rely on the resources of 100,000 mu (about 6,667 hectares) of kiwifruit in Fenghuang County and the technical support of Hunan Academy of Agricultural Sciences to expand and strengthen this industry. It also strives to be a benchmark in fruit processing and agricultural industrialization in Xiangxi Prefecture and Hunan Province.
